There are over 200 signals that Google uses to determine a website’s page ranking. SEO Bites is not an SEO company, it’s a media company. We only create 1 of the 200 signals, and that is original content. In this interview with Wayne Bucklar, he explains the importance of having a good Google ranking for your business and how SEO Bites can help you be seen on the front page of Google
Henry Acosta: Today we have Wayne Bucklar of SEO Bites. Welcome back to the program Wayne.
Wayne Bucklar: Hi Henry, thanks for having me.
Henry: So Wayne how did you come up with the idea of SEO Bites?
Wayne: We’re actually asked to do SEO Bites by the Google guru in Australia and Monte Huebsch is a Google guru and runs AussieWeb and he just been to a Google conference where they had said frequently publishing original content was the secret to coming out number one on page one and improving your ranking. The difficulty was that for him to do it in Australia was an expensive exercise but most of my staff in the Philippines where wage costs are much lower and because we’re doing commercial radio stations, it wasn’t a big shift for us to go from doing interviews and voice only, doing interviews with video and the rest of the content. I have the staff already here to do it because we do all of the stuff we do for SEO Bites for our radio stations.
Henry: Why do you need good ranking and what are the benefits of being on the frontpage of Google?
Wayne: Most people don’t look at page two in Google results, in fact 85% of people never get past page one and now with about 75% of searches being done on mobile devices people on a phone are really only seeing four organic results. By the time the screen fills up with the paid adwords is really owning the space left for about 4 in the middle and if you’re not one of those 4 you’re just not going to be seen particularly if your business is one where people ask location sensitive and they’re searching for you as they’re driving around or as they’re moving through a mobile.
Henry: Is the client get to choose the keywords to search for to help find a website?
Wayne: Absolutely and we will help them with that and we can show them the sort of number of searches for various keywords that they’re looking for but one of our most successful clients, Gerry Whelan from Archer Glass, he’s chosen keywords in the first year he was with us were ‘Safety Glass’ and now if you type ‘Safety Glass’ into Google engine in Brisbane of if you type ‘Safety Glass Brisbane’ if you’re not in Brisbane, that search ‘Safety Glass Brisbane’ will return about 7 of his videos on the first page of YouTube and it’ll bring him up as the third after two national glass companies on the Brisbane results in Google. So he’s now switching those words after 12 month, he’s now looking at ‘Replacement Glass’ as his keywords and so we’ll now make sure that in every interview we do, in every post, in every piece of social media the words ‘Replacement Glass’ are associated with his content.
Henry: Will that maintain my ranking once I get on the front page of Google?
Wayne: It will be nice if you could, it’ll be nice if you could just write the definitive piece of content about your business, the absolute correct explanation and it would just keep you on page one forever and maybe it should but Google is not about what should happen, Google is about what’s good for Google and they like to take into account how old the content is and that’s why they’ve required that you frequently publish original content if you want to remain on the top of the first page.
Henry: Let’s say I have a website and I don’t know how to post videos on it, how do we go about this?
Wayne: Posting content on people’s social media or accounts, it always has to get on the client’s social media or accounts not on ours otherwise I would just boost our standing. So there’s a number of options, at one end of the spectrum if they’re prepared to share their social media passwords with us or if they don’t have social media accounts we can create them for them then we’ll publish all the content directly on their social media pages as soon as it’s ready and approved. At the other end of the spectrum we have some clients who are very sensitive about sharing their social media passwords and for them we send them the content and they post it themselves. Other people will share passwords with us and then change the passwords the next day, all that sort of behaviors are perfectly acceptable as well. From our point of view we prefer to post the content on the social media or account ourselves because we have noticed in some businesses it doesn’t quite happen as quickly as we’d like it, two weeks, a couple of weeks later then you’re doing the next one and you have a time in your shoe. So for us because we’re charging money for it and because it’s what we do we’re very motivated to get the interview done, the content approved and post it and move on to the next interview three or four weeks later.
Henry: If the business does give you their social media accounts who will manage it and will it be secure?
Wayne: Yes, we secure all our passwords, we use one of those password encryption tools, I could tell you what it is but then I’d have to kill you. We put those things in there, we’ve never had an issue with it, the staff don’t see the passwords. They only see their password that gives them access to the vault and in the vault it automatically logs them on the various pieces of social media without revealing passwords to them.
Henry: Can you explain to me what kind of company SEO Bites is if it’s not an SEO company?
Wayne: We’re a media company. Henry what we do is create media. If you have to look at Health Professional Radio which is one of our radio networks you’ll see we’ve got some two or three thousand interviews that have been published on there, we have 30 stations around the world and we were a radio station before we got into SEO Bites. So what we’re doing here is really just extending our expertise in radio to include the video footage because we’re asked to do so by an SEO company. There are over two hundred signals that Google uses to determine ranking and that SEO companies adjust and correct. We don’t do a hundred and ninety nine of those we just do one, original content.
Henry: So who are the other past clients that you’ve had, that you’ve helped get on the first page of Google?
Wayne: Look if anyone wants to drop us an email we’re happy to give you a list of the clients that you can check up on but certainly Archer Glass is one of ours in Brisbane, the Drink Driving Lawyer is one of ours in Melbourne, AussieWeb look for 200 Google signals and you’ll come across Monte Huebsch, the guy who originally asked us to do this does it for his own company and of course if you search for Health Professional Radio or Vertical Internet Media or Wayne Bucklar you’ll find our own stuff and as a rule we don’t promote SEO Bites too much, we certainly don’t compete with our clients but in the radio space you’ll find lots of material and as I said search for me and you’ll find just how popularly you can be in search engines because I’ve had a number of years of publishing content, you’ll find me all over the place.
Henry: And that’s Wayne from SEO Bites. Thank you for your time and thanks for being on the show.
Wayne: It’s a pleasure.
