Frequently Asked Questions

How will the Interview be done?

How will the video interviews be done?

Wayne Bucklar:  We do our video interviews over the internet. At one end a webcam, in your office an iPhone, it really doesn’t matter, you’re not looking to produce television style excellent video production. At the other end we do much what we’re doing here, we use a studio with a green screen effect. We try and present the interviews as though it is a media program calling you via Skype to do an interview. It’s the lowest cost mechanism we have, it looks to my mind credible and acceptable without it being the full blown cost of a video shoot.

Why choose video for creating original content?

Why choose video as the main platform for creating original content?

Wayne Bucklar:  Because Google owns YouTube and because YouTube is now the second biggest search engine, it has millions of uses and having content on YouTube means Google ranks you more highly. So you can put an audio on YouTube but it’s defeating half the purpose, it’s a video medium so we use video.

When will my website be available on Google?

What’s the timeframe before a website gets on the front page of Google?

Wayne Bucklar:  You have to train the Google robot to come back and find new content so that it meets their criteria for frequently published original content. The minimum number of instances for this seems to be three, it needs to find content, come back another and look fine content, adjust it’s timeframes on that and then find content on the third visit. So we think the optimum is probably three months’ worth of content before you start to see much benefit.

Why should we use original content on our website?

Why should we use original content on our website?

Wayne Bucklar:  Google recently announced in their Panda and Penguin updates their signals that they use to determine which web page will come out the top of first page in search results. One of the things they put a lot of weight on is ‘domain authority’ and domain authority is measured in large part by the frequency in which you publish original content. Now, that’s something many of us don’t do, we would never done it in the past, we write write our website, we go that’s really good and we leave it there, that’s no longer enough. So SEO Bites is a way of extracting new original content relatively painlessly and getting it published on social media frequently.

How if a someone doesn't have a camera or a webcam?

What if a someone doesn’t have a camera or a webcam?

Wayne Bucklar:  The number of clients we deal with these days without a webcam or a phone is pretty low and if you don’t have one and you want to be involved in SEO Bites and get good domain authority’s scores up then it’s worth the investment to buy a webcam. For less than a hundred dollars you can buy a really good webcam. The bigger issue is that you need to connect it with enough connectivity that we can get a good signal from your office to our office so often that means not using wifi but using something that’s actually plugged in or cabled. But it doesn’t have to be very special internet connectivity, a DSL will do well enough almost everyone

What is the importance of the 60 second videos?

What’s the importance of the 60 second videos?

Wayne Bucklar:  Alright, there’s a bit of gamesmanship here on our behalf. You do a 7 minute video so that you get a decent transcript so that Google considers it a significant contribution. But think about how you use YouTube – you type in the search you want, you click on the first video, you watch it for a little while, you think ‘Yes this is good’ or ‘No this is not good’. If it’s no good you click the next button and go to the next one on your search or you start a new search. So if you got a 7 minute video and someone’s a minute into it and they’re not excited about the content they’ll do a new search. However if it’s a 60 second answer and they’re half a minute into it and they decide that they don’t like it, by the time they think about doing a new search it’s already over and moves on to the next video. Google gives you for lack of better word browny points, Google gives you credit for the number of people that look at your video, it gives you more credit for the number of people that watch your video to the end. So our 60 second videos are an attempt to get people to look at video right to the end.

How can you measure the ranking of a website?

How can you measure the ranking of a website?

Wayne:  There are a number of tools around to do that. Google won’t tell you directly but one of the better ones that we use is MOZ (M-O-Z), it’s highly regarded in the search engine optimization industry and they bring together a lot of experts to try and collectively figure out what the rules are the Google News and so if you subscribe to MOZ or interview then subscribe you can put your website in there and you’ll see your domain authority and your page ranking or number of other characteristics about your domain.

How can you guarantee that we are making original content for a website?

How can you guarantee that we are making original content for a website?

Wayne:  Not making original content will get you severely smacked. Google will rank you down very badly if you plagiarize or screen scrape content from other people’s websites. What we do that guarantee is it’s original by the website owner is we have the website owner’s talking head, we have their lips moving and the words coming out and the odds of that being not original are very low. Particularly if people take our advice and don’t use a script, they answer the question as it’s put to them even if it’s the same question that was put to them ten times before every answer will be sufficiently different for it to be considered as original content.

Will my ranking on Google affect my ranking on other search engines?

Will my ranking on Google affect my ranking on other search engines?

Wayne:  Google ranking is used by many search engines to determine ranking generally. In fact for a long time a number of search engines simply used Google’s index, if you like return the same results Google did, so yes it will make a big difference. Almost across the board if you have a good Google ranking it will improve your ranking everywhere else including in things you don’t expect like LinkedIn and Facebook because content ranks up highly Google it seems that the other social media or accounts also rank it up and show it more often and likewise if you’ve got content in Facebook that’s being shown regularly and having people comment on then the same or similar content in LinkedIn will get shown to more people and so there’s a bit of a virtual circle there that we’re trying to create when one feeds off the other.

What companies is SEO Bites looking to work with?

What companies is SEO Bites looking to work with?

Wayne: Look, SEO Bites will work for any firm that wants to be on page one on Google. Our most successful client is from the glazier from Brisbane, he’s been doing it for twelve month now, if you got a YouTube and look for his keywords which are ‘Safety Glass’, if you’re not in Brisbane add ‘Brisbane’ to it ‘Safety Glass Brisbane’. And about six or seven at the first page of YouTube video will all be his. Now obviously if you put in ‘Gerry Whelan Archer Glass’ you’ll expect to get all his but just by putting in ‘Safety Glass’ his competing with every other glazier who’s on YouTube advertising safety glass. On Google with the same search it comes up about number 3 behind 2 national companies who are I suspect spending a lot of money on keywords.

Can I edit or add additional content to my video?

Can I edit or add additional content to my video?

Wayne: When we shoot the video, the first thing we do is send you a transcript of it and that allows you to cross out the things that you wish you haven’t said, take out the lines that you don’t want in there. You can also then mark on that video where you would like conditional material like photographs or graphs or powerpoint slides to appear and disappear, you just mark them with a pencil on the transcript:JPG1 starts, finishes here. And then our editors will edit the video to match your written instructions from that transcript and then we retype the transcript to match the finished edited video and we make all the other social media post to match that.

Are transcripts necessary for my website?

Are transcripts necessary for my website?

Wayne: We use the transcripts for two reasons. Publishing it on your website ties together the video content and your website in a way that’s kind of unavoidable for Google.
You don’t have to do that, Google is very good at matching the NAP that is the name, address and phone number and we make sure they are the same on your website as well as they are in all your other content. And they’re also not too bad at matching facial recognition from the talking head with the website as well. But you can’t go past having the actual words of the video as a transcript on your website, Google reads words much more readily than speech or video so having the words there will help with your Google ranking.

Is there a lock in or contract?

Wayne Bucklar:  There’s no lock in or contract because we want customers to feel confident and not at risk with what they do with us. So lock in is only of use to you if you’re actually going to sue someone and we’re a small company, we’re not going to sue our customers and we don’t ever expect them to sue us. So we want them to come back month after month because they get good value from month after month. There’s no risk because we guarantee that if you don’t like the product, don’t use the product, if you don’t use the product there is no bill because we want customers to come back and say ‘I wasn’t happy with that video, I would rather re-shoot it and redo it’ than have them walk away and not be happy.

How much does your services cost?

How much does your services cost?

Wayne Bucklar: Producing video is very expensive because it’s very time-consuming. If you are going to produce a commercial-grade video in your office, you’re going to work on something like an hour a minute to shoot under ideal conditions. To do that you’re going to have a camera crew or probably two cameras, a lighting crew over couple of people, you’re going to have make-up and a director and a script and so on and so forth. In fact it’s not at all hard to think of a ten minute video costing you ten thousand dollars to make and that’s under ideal circumstances. If you think about the cost of making a movie where it’s millions of dollars to make 90 minutes you get a better idea. Now I’m not suggesting you need to cast of thousands and Brad Pitt, what I am saying is that what you want to make for your purposes is not a super…video that’s going to show off your wonderful filmmaking skills, you want to make a video that’s going to satisfy YouTube and Google and to do that we may get in the most cost effective way possible, we shoot it over the internet with the webcam, it takes about 20 minutes of your time, we don’t use a script because you know everything there is to know about your business and we charge $770 for the package. That is the ten minutes of video, the podcast, the audio sound file on SoundCloud, the Slide Deck, the social media postings, altogether $770.

How do I get in touch with you?

How do I get in touch with you?

Wayne Bucklar: The best way to get in-touch with us is via our website, it’s www.seo-bites.com you can also call us in Australia our number is 07-3177-9900 that’s the same number we have for the media company so don’t be surprise when it’s a media company that answers but we really do do SEO Bites as well.

How can I keep track of my website in the Google ranking?

How do I get in touch with you?
Wayne Bucklar: The best way to get in-touch with us is via our website, it’s www.seo-bites.com you can also call us in Australia our number is 07-3177-9900 that’s the same number we have for the media company so don’t be surprise when it’s a media company that answers but we really do do SEO Bites as well.

What is page rank?

What is page rank?

Wayne Bucklar: Page rank is a score invented by Google that relies on a number of factors to indicate where the page should come in a list of results. So let’s assume you’re going to search for something very common like carburetors and there’s going to be 50,000 pages in the world that are about carburetors, so the problem Google has is which one should I put at the top of the page and the answer is the one with the highest page rank. Now,these days there all some issue of location, so it’s the closest one to you with the highest page rank particularly if you’re doing mobile searches that Google knows where you are. So it’s a complex question but basically the three big feeders into page rank are firstly, do you have the content on your page? Secondly, do other websites who have a high page rank link to you? Do you have links? And thirdly, is your content original and frequently updated? Now as I said there are over 200 signals that go into this equation and I’m no expert in all of them and I certainly don’t have time to explain all of them but the big ones that you can worry about immediately – original content, links from other well-regarded, high-ranking pages and content that covers what you’re trying to talk about.

How often should I publish content on my website?

How often should I publish content on my website?

Wayne Bucklar: There’s no good answer to this issue of how often you should publish content, what’s the optimum time to do it. I have to say we run a radio station website where we’re publishing somewhere between four and ten original transcripts everyday and the Googlebot comes to our website several times a day, you can see in your logs when the Googlebot is going through. So if you’re publishing content regularly like hourly then you will score well. If you leave it go for a period of time at some point Google will say ‘Oh, you’re not publishing frequently. You’re an irregular publisher.’ I think the magic figure seems to be about between 3 and 4 weeks, somewhere in that range seems to be the best balance of the cost of publishing versus the frequency with which the Googlebot comes. Certainly if you can afford it what you should do is publish content like we do multiple times everyday but for most people who are not a media outlet, that’s just not practical.

Is social media important to get good ranking?

Is social media important to get good ranking?

Wayne:  Social media is critically important for ranking in your search engine because you want Google to get the benefit of how other mediums treat your posts. So if I can try and put it this way Google owns YouTube, if you put a video on YouTube and people look at it the popularity of the video on YouTube affects the weight that Google gives to it in its own index. The same is true with LinkedIn and SlideShare and iTunes and SoundCloud and so on and so forth, the more an authoritative website ranks your content the more other authoritative websites will also rank it.

Is SEO Bites also online marketing?

Is this also online marketing?

Wayne:  Without a doubt when you publish original content and you publish it on a bunch of social media it has that advertising spin-off effect. There will people who’ll see the clip on their Facebook stream and it just brings about that ‘friend of mine’ awareness and when next day looking for a service like yours your firm will be the one that comes to mind. So all of the social media: LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook all of those reach an audience. Likewise YouTube does as well as to the podcast, so independently what Google does there is a spin-off benefit that you get and then on top of that they all help your ranking in Google.

Are there other resellers of SEO-Bites?

Are there other resellers of SEO-Bites?

Wayne:  Yes, SEO Bites uses a number of resellers both in Australia and in America and in the UK and we’re always open to proposals from other people who would like to resell our product. The resellers are generally experts in the field in some way or another, some of them are SEO companies in their own right and they resell SEO Bites because we’re able to produce quality original content at very low prices.

Would changing the title of my videos help my rank?

Would changing the title of my videos help my rank?

Wayne Bucklar:  The title of your videos ought to reflect the keywords we’re trying to promote and at the same time still be accurate titles. So yes, changing the titles is an important part of how you rank.

Are the amount of viewers on my video important?

Are the amount of viewers on my video important?

Wayne Bucklar:  The number of people who view your YouTube video is one of the signals that Google takes into account for the pagerank that your website gets. It links two together using the NAP, the name, address and phone number and also the content that matches and rumour has it also get as technical as doing facial recognition to match faces with social media websites and YouTube. Now Google doesn’t declare what weights go where but we know if people watch your video and you therefore got a high ranking video on YouTube that rank will spill over, flow over into Google. If people watch your video to the end, it’ll get even more browny points.

Can you post our content on other social media outlets?

Can you post our content on other social media outlets?

Wayne Bucklar:  We’re happy to post original content on any of your social media accounts that you have. We’ve nominated the ones that we think are critically important and they’re the ones we do by default but if you’ve got other favorite social media accounts that you like, we’re happy to post your content on those as well or if you prefer we’ll send the content to you for you to post on there.

Will all the original content that's been published be mobile friendly?

Will all the original content that’s been published be mobile friendly?

Wayne Bucklar: Being Mobile friendly is no longer a choice. Some 70% of searches are now being done on mobile phones. We ought to be starting with mobiles and then making a website useful on desktops. Mobiles are by far the most frequent searching mechanism that people are using. So all the content we publish is mobile friendly because it has to be and if you’re publishing your own content please check out, have a look at your stats on Google Analytics, you’ll find that most of your traffic is probably coming from mobile phones. Make sure your web developers are developing for mobile first not mobile also or mobile maybe – mobile first.

What do people mean when they say their website is above the fold?

What do people mean when they say their website is above the fold?

Wayne Bucklar: Being ‘above the fold’ is a reference that comes from the days of newspaper. When your newspaper was delivered it was folded in half and you can read the top half of the front page without unfolding your newspaper and you can read the top half of the front page of the newspaper without unfolding the newspaper. On your website ‘above the fold’ refers generally speaking to the first screenful of information that people can see. One of the things that Google ranks you on is how long someone has to wait to see that first screenful of information. Now they’re not so bothered about below the fold because by the time the person looked at the top half, the bit they can see and they scroll down the bottom half would be there. So that’s what above the fold refers to in the Google feedback.

What is the difference between SEO Bites and Pay Per Click?

What is the difference between SEO Bites and Pay Per Click?

There are a number of advertising mechanisms around that will invoice you each time someone clicks on your ad – Google adwords is one of these. It’s also very common on advertising and a whole bunch of other websites with banner advertising so on and so forth. Some will charge you so much per thousand impressions and that’s charging you not per click but how often the ad is showing. Pay Per click means you only pay when someone clicks on the ad and therefore goes to your website. SEO Bites on the other hand is not either of those advertising mechanisms. What we do is help you create original content and publish it in nine different places on your social media or accounts. So we do an interview over the internet, we do a Q&A session from that we do a transcript, we do a podcast, we do the radio station broadcast, we do YouTube, we do SoundCloud, we do LinkedIn, Twitter, facebook, Pinterest – all those places with the story that comes from the interview that we did with you in the Q&A session over the internet.

What is the most expensive part about SEO Bites service?

What is the most expensive part about SEO Bites service?

Wayne Bucklar:  SEO Bites’ service is a flat $770 fee per episode. The reason is that price is that it takes a lot of time to do because we start with the video and then we break it up into a number of artifacts that go on YouTube and Google and so on and so forth. There is no particularly expensive part, I guess for me the most expensive part is the time from the customer. If you have the time to spend to put the 20 or 30 hours in it takes to do it then you can do it yourself, it’s on our website how to do it and there’s no great secret with that. But for most business people having 20 or 30 hours spare once a month is just not even in the ball park so we’re very conscious of using as little as their time as possible and normally it’s less than half an hour a month.

How long does it take from video interview to final product?

How long does it take from video interview to final product?

Wayne Bucklar:  The timing of our video packages is very important to us, we try and get it to all fit into a very efficient process. So we shoot the video over the internet, we then do a transcript of that video, we send the transcript back to the customer after we’ve marked it up with the things we think should be edited out. They mark it up with additional things they would like taken out and if they’ve got photographs or illustrations to put in, they mark where they’re going to start and stop in the video. Now that means we’re gonna edit the video once then we can lift the audio off it, we’ve already edited that as part of the video then we can get the transcript updated and we’ve now got a finished set that we can not have to redo over and over because with video editing or any sort of media editing it’s the redoing that kills you. So we turn the transcript into a slide deck using the same words that are in the transcript, need a little bit of rewriting but it’s just generally shifting it to dot-point. And we use the audio to do the podcast and the SoundCloud broadcast and the radio interviews from, we use the video to go on YouTube and we use the transcript into write the introductory paragraphs for each of the social media posts and they link back to the video and so it all fits together in about 4 days. So it takes somewhere between 30 and 40 hours, we’ve got a team of eight people in the Philippines who do most of this work for us and we try and fit them into that slot of process of everyone doing their own bit in the sequence and we’ve done a lot of them, we’ve got it down pretty path. But that’s the reason the process $770 is we think it’s probably better value than most of the videos in the world. Using Filipino staff and being able to do it in an efficient way is one of the ways we keep the cost down.

Why have a flat rate than a pay per hour?

Why have a flat rate than a pay per hour?

Wayne Bucklar:  When we costed SEO Bites as a package, we looked for staff that would make customers comfortable with it. If we have a per hour rate there is some uncertainty about how much they’re going to pay and it comes down to where efficiency of getting things done. With a fixed rate the customer can rely on what it is going cost before they decide to go ahead. We also have our risk reversal guarantee, so what we say is it’s a bit like a restaurant ‘If you don’t like it don’t eat it. If you don’t eat it, don’t pay for it’. If you don’t like the content we create for you don’t use it and if you don’t use it don’t pay for it. Nor is there any lock-in we do our interviews as frequently as a customer wants them, month by month for as many months as they want.

What is an online brand?

What is an online brand?

Wayne Bucklar:  Once you create an electronic presence online you have created your digital brand, your electronic brand, your online brand, call it what you will. Whatever sort of business you’re in or even as an individual as soon as you begin to be published, people form an image around you and begin to imagine what sort of individual firm you are – that is your online brand. You’re much better off managing your online brand than you are having one just emerge and so it would start with the main names extends through emails and then to social media or accounts, it is the sum of all the presence that you have online.

What are the advantages of having an online brand?

What are the advantages of having an online brand?

Wayne Bucklar:  The advantages of having an online brand is really the advantages of managing your online brand, you’re going to have people form an opinion of you once you published material online. Much better you deliberately manage that as a brand management strategy than just let it emerge. And the sorts of things you would do is worry about matching patterns, continuity of colors and marketing material all, of the sorts of things you would do in a style guide should extend themselves into your online brand. What are the words, what are the meanings, how is it expressed?

Will SEO Bites help me develop my brand?

Will SEO Bites help me develop my brand?

Wayne Bucklar:  At SEO Bites we help you develop a brand mainly by creating content. We will and we do match the brand characteristics where we can in terms of the way the interview is presented, the way your presenter is dressed, who your presenter is. There are some brands that require a young, hip, funky presenter and that’s certainly not me but we do have those people available who fit that criteria. And then when they do the interview, the questions and the answers in the interview need to reflect that branding style – it’s as simple as that. Make everything consistent and what you get out of it is a consistent brand.

How many keywords does a website need?

How many keywords does a website need?

Wayne Bucklar:  A website doesn’t need any particular number of keywords. It just needs the keywords that customers are going to use. Now if someone googles your company name or your name they’ll probably going to find your website no keywords required. But what you want is the keywords included in your website that potential customers are going to type in when they’re looking for your product or service.

Where do the keywords appear when we use the service?

Where do the keywords appear when we use the service?

Wayne Bucklar:  When we create an SEO Bites package, we make sure that the keywords appear frequently in the interview. From the interview they get copied to the transcript, from the transcript they get copied to the podcast and to the slide deck and to the social media post. So we make sure that the keywords you’re using appear just in phrases, we don’t have a big heading that says keywords column whatever they are.We just make sure they’re mentioned in the body of the conversation. We do that by simply asking you a question, the answer to which is the keywords that you need.

What is the optimal amount of words for keywords?

What is the optimal amount of words for keywords?

Wayne Bucklar:  There’s not an optimal amount of keywords. I like to think that if you think carefully about your business and service and then do a little bit of researching on Google you can come down to two or three key phrases that would be the most likely things that a potential customer would type into Google. One of our clients is a glazier, he uses safety glass as one key phrase and he uses replacement glass as another one. We make sure they appear all over the place and I think last time I looked he was on the front page of Google five times and on the front page of YouTube’s seven times – that’s about as good as it gets.

What can I expect from doing the interview?

What can I expect from doing the interview?

Wayne Bucklar:  The way we do it Henry is pretty straightforward. Because we have a bunch of our staff in the Philippines where labor costs are lower, we can afford to keep our prices down but it’s conventional video editing and conventional audio editing, it’s conventional social media publication and writing stuff. So there’s no great secret to how we do that. We have got the process fairly refined so that it slides along pretty well. For instance, when we do an interview, we do one 7 minute video to make that a significant piece of content and then we do three 60 second videos. So that they’re more likely to be watched to their conclusion on Youtube. We take the transcript of the videos, it’s the first thing we do. We send that off to the client for them to correct it by ruling out what they don’t want to appear in the video, we then get them to mark in where any images or powerpoint slides or other videos are going to appear, “filename this, starts here, stops there,” just mark it on the transcript and they send that back to us. We edit the video once to match the transcript, we retype the transcript to match the new video, we then take from it the audio and turn that into a podcast, we take off it the mp4 to put onto Soundcloud, we then have our social media writers write introductory headlines and introductory paragraphs to each of those for each social media. There’s no kind of magic shortcut to this, it’s not done by clever computers, it’s just done by clever people, it’s just that because they’re people in the Philippines, they can do it very cost effectively. We send all that back to the client, they approve it and either they publish it on their social media or we publish it on their social media for them.

Can I direct or give inputs on production?

Can I direct or give inputs on production?

Wayne Bucklar:  A lot our first time clients would like a script and we certainly don’t mind if they want to direct or if they want to determine how they sit and how their lighting is. A lot of them don’t know and we actually do that from this end of the video link so we mention what’s in the background and how high up the screen their head should be and all that sort of things but to deliver a script and to do it in a meaningful, emotionally engaging and convincing way you need to be Brad Pitt or someone like that, you need to be paid a lot of money. Most of us can’t do it and most of us they don’t need to so much better results if people will just let me ask them some questions about their business and they’re broad questions, ‘What is it you do and where do you do it?’ And I’ll just ask interviewers’ questions to extract the next bit and the next bit. People generally have no trouble talking about their business for 10 minutes, no trouble at all.

Can I create a script for the interview?

Can I create a script for the interview?

Wayne Bucklar:  Before we can start recording, we normally have a bit of a discussion about what questions I’m going to ask and where they want go and what keywords I want included in their video. We make sure we’ve had a look at their website before we go on air, we understand a bit about their business. But generally, we have no difficulty with getting 10 minutes out of a 25 or 30 minute recording. So we say to new clients ‘Allow 30 minutes’ and out of that 30 minutes we’ll get 10 minutes of good video.

Can I choose my presenter for the interview and how?

Can I choose my presenter for the interview and how?

Wayne Bucklar: Yes Patrick, you can choose your presenter for an interview. If you have a look on our website, you’ll see there is a ‘Choose My Presenter’ webpage. Depending on the day you go there, there’ll be a number of presenters who are available, different genders, different ages, different styles, you can select the one that you would prefer and we’ll try and organize that presenter to be the presenter for your websites.

Can I change my presenter for the future videos?

Can I change my presenter for the future videos?

Wayne Bucklar:  In the future, it’s up to you as to whether you want to change presenters every month or whether you want to stick to the same one and it depends of course on the availability of that person because we try in keeping them in a box and only bringing them out when we needed them but the reality is they insisted on having a life as well and so presenters come and presenters go, but it’s really up to you provided they’re still available to do the interview.

How can I get more information about the presenters?

How can I get more information about the presenters?

Wayne Bucklar:  When you visit that page at our website, if you click on the presenter’s photo you’ll see a little video of that presenter introducing themselves, generally it’s just to give you an opportunity to listen to their style of speaking and their language and diction and to see how they behave in front of a camera and there is a wide range of both experience and characteristics among our presenters. We do it to stage only work in English but who knows in the future we might have some presenters with other languages as well.
